Target Audience (Be specific)

Anyone who enjoys organized American sports and sports media

What is your concept? (Be thorough & specific. Review the links on Blackboard)

Our concept will be to allow our readers to immerse themselves in the world of sports and make personal connections to athletes and teams alike. We will offer 1 on 1 exclusive interviews with professional athletes and teams. We will keep all of our readers well updated and informed on what is going on in their world of sports. Since sports are in full swing throughout the year, we will feature pieces about whatever sport is going on in the U.S.

How did you conceive the idea for this concept?

The idea for this topic was quite an easy decision. Every member in our group has either played or plays a sport. I feel like this is a topic we can all connect over, and this is something every member in my group is passionate about.

What do you believe is unique about your concept?

Our concept is unique because it allows the reader to have a close, intimate, and interactive experiences as similar as the real thing.

Why do you believe this product will be of interest to your audience?

Every reader wants to feel like they are as much a part of any athlete’s career or any organization’s decisions as they possibly can. Keeping our readers up to date on all of the current issues within the world of sports will allow them to make personal connections to their favorite teams and athletes.

Concept: make magazine as if covid didn’t exist

Intimate

Womens soccer

Maybe do a womens magazine

When we pitched our project concept to the class, I was very open to suggestion since I have never really made a concept idea before. Our magazine is a sports magazine, and the main issue with our project was its uniqueness. A simple solution to that issue was offered by one of our classmates; we were suggested to do an all female sports magazine. Not only did our classmate suggest it, our teacher strongly agreed with the change. Next, marketability was an extreme factor in our group's decision. The, "games" section of magazines launched 9 new magazines in 2019, making it the third highest category (U.S. Magazine Industry - Statistics & Fact, 2019). This evidence establishes how there is still a large desire of sports magazines, and a solid audience for our magazine. Additionally, our specific magazine topic is women's sports, which would be considered a niche magazine. According to CredSpark, an audience insight specialist, "Niche publishers have not merely survived the past decade - many of them are thriving. They’ve managed this feat by staying relentlessly focused on one specific category and by thoroughly understanding the types of content and information that their audiences want, need – and in some cases, what readers don’t yet know they need (Bezudeinhout, 2019)." This quote exemplifies the potential that niche magazines have in the industry. The next biggest factor when deciding our magazine was uniqueness. Our instructor made it clear that our magazine had to stand out from the rest, and that we couldn't replicate an established magazine. The idea of a women's sports magazine is one not often thought of or even executed. Since 1974 there has only been one major women's sports magazine. Finally, the most important piece of our decision was our groups passion. Personally, I am very passionate about athletics and equal rights, and I feel like this magazine is the perfect combination of both. By making this magazine we can focus on giving women the credit they deserve, while also focusing on their athletic achievements. According to Camille T. Dungy, "We turn to literature in part to understand who we have been and who we can be." This quote highlights literature is an extension of who we are and want to be.
